Selfreliance Ukrainian-American Federal Credit Union in Chicago Supports Kyiv-Moyhyla Academy

Selfreliance Ukrainian-American Federal Credit Union generously hosted Dr. Vyacheslav Bryukhovetsky, NaUKMA chancellor and president of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Andriy Maleshevych, dean of the Kyiv Mohyla Law School at a presentation to the Chicago area Ukrainian community on April 10th, 2010.

The gathering of approximately one hundred took place at the meeting hall of the credit union. The audience eagerly listened to an analysis of the political situation in Ukraine and engaged in a lively discussion. Dr. Bryukhovetsky assured the audience that the current changes taking place are part of the process of political evolution and that a new generation of young, educated and responsible leaders will emerge to lead the country in the future. He emphasized that the role and mission of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in the process in nation-building is of great consequence. Dr. Meleshevych analyzed some of the latest Parliamentary changes to laws and to the legal system and concluded that many of them merit constitutional challenges.

Dr. Bryukhovetsky and Dr. Maleshevych were in Chicago for meetings at Northwestern University School of Law. Dean Meleshevych was invited to deliver a paper at the Midwest Political Science Conference taking place in Chicago. Dr. Meleshevych attained his Ph.D. in Political Science at Syracuse University in the United States and a J.D. degree at the Kyiv National University. Its students have continually won the top prize in the national Jessup Moot Court Competition and scored high at international competitions. Its graduates are hired by top law firms, corporations and the government in Ukraine upon graduation. Bohdan Watral, president of Selfreliance Ukrainian-American Federal Credit Union and Oresta Fedeniak, president of the Selfreliance Foundation presented a check in the amount of $15,000 as a gift of support for the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Selfreliance in Chicago has been a continuous supporter of the University with gifts totaling $62,000. Dr. Bryukhovetsky expressed his gratitude for the continuous support and goodwill.
