The topic of recent events related to changes and interpretations of Ukraines Constitution were of great concern and a discussion ensued about the future political situation in Ukraine. Due to new challenges in the countrys current political climate, Kyiv-Mohyla Law Schools program to prepare a new generation of lawyers was of great interest to all present. Kyiv-Mohyla Law School and other departments and schools at the University are continuously engaged in programs to support nation-building, the rule of law and the democratic process.

As related to government and law, both Chancellor Bryukhovetsky and Dean Maleshevych expressed confidence about the future of Ukraine. Both emphasized that Ukraine is undergoing a process of nation-building and that challenges are expected, that governments are not permanent, and they change according to the political climate but in such circumstances the need to educate a new generation of leaders based on national interests in a democratic society becomes even more acute. They took pride in their graduates and explained that Kyiv-Mohyla Academy has a record number of alumni who have become highly regarded in both governance and law. For example, Kyiv-Mohyla Law School graduate Dmytro Kotlyar, was appointed to the position of Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in the previous administration and Irina Vannikova was appointed Press Secretary of President Victor Yushchenko. There are many other such examples. Chancellor Bryukhovetsky expressed his hope that the Ukrainian-American community will continue to take interest in Ukraines political process and will support efforts by the people of Ukraine to build a democratic stable society.
