Statement on the
Transfer of the National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”
to the Sphere of Management of the
Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine
On July 7, 2010, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine issued Decree ¹ 1353-r, which officially transferred the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) and the National University of Ostroh Academy, Ukraine’s two oldest universities, to the sphere of management of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Serhiy Kvit and the Ukrainian Catholic University openly opposed the appointment of Dmitry Tabachnik as Minister of Education and Science. At the meeting of rectors last week, the university leaders who attended engaged in various declarations of support of the new minister and criticized his predecessor. On July 29, 2009, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine officially named the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy as a Research University. This official status opens new perspectives for the University. There are many aspects and advantages to this recognition.
